A special presentation of the Samuel Bassett Award by the Queensland Wine Industry Association was made to Calvin Winks and Preben Jacobsen at the ASWS Presentation Dinner. The recipients were named at the recent Queensland Wine Awards but this dinner enabled the presentation to be made in person. They were instrumental in the ’70s in importing (with much legislative hassle) and trialling grape varieties for their suitability for the Granite Belt. The Award is given to persons who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of the Queensland wine industry.
“The contribution of these gentlemen truly reflects what the Samuel Bassett Award is all about and their efforts have been acknowledged at long last,”
Jim Barnes, President of the Queensland Wine Industry Association
